U.S. corporate media paid journalists refuse to provide Americans meaningful information regarding COVID-19 and the number of deaths. The missing information deprives Americans of the ability to measure their risk put the pandemic in context with the other risks of life.
Unfortunately, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s go-to epidemiologist, uses language to escalate fear and hide the true risk the people face. In testimony to Congress at the start of the pandemic, Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, explained COVID-19’s mortality rate by comparing it to the flu. He testified the flu mortality rate is.01% and then said COVID-19 is probably ten times higher than the flu. The part that got the headline in all the major media was COVID-19 is ten times more deadly than the flu. Imagine if Fauci had said the flu is dealy in .1% of cases and COVID-19 is deadly in 1% of the cases, and for 99% of the cases, death is not likely. Despite the rapid increase in confirmed cases over the last several weeks, the mortality rate has remained below 1.5% of confirmed cases. To account for the reportedly lag in deaths from date of confirmed case, JJChronicles, used the current week’s mortality and divided it by the confirmed cases from the date that is three weeks earlier. If the confirmed cases are increased by a factor of three to account for reported asymptomatic people, a low estimate according to some reports, the mortality rate falls well below 1 percent.
With President Trump’s apparent defeat and the election of Joe Biden, Fauci’s pre-election use of The Washington Post to predict rising deaths and advocate for a national mask mandate and possibly shutdowns of the economy appears to have saved his job. Biden promised to keep Fauci in the government running the COVID-19 response.
